Modernizing the infrastructure below Andrews and Gladys streets
Our City’s 100-year-old sewer system combines sanitary sewage and storm water, and we must upgrade it to protect the Rocky River and Lake Erie. This Clean Water Lakewood project will modernize the infrastructure that is below Andrews and Gladys streets so we can meet the demands of the next century and Clean Water Act regulations. This project is expected to be complete in July 2023.
Do you live on Andrews and Gladys streets between Clifton Boulevard and Detroit Avenue? Our Good Neighbor Commitment will help you know what to expect during this project.

About the Project
-
How will residents benefit from this project?+-

- Better storm drainage
- Newly paved streets
- Improved flow to fire hydrants
- Protection for the environment
-
What lies beneath Andrews and Gladys streets?+-
This neighborhood was built in 1906 and includes the following infrastructure:
- 116-year-old watermain
- Lead pipes bring water from the watermain in the street to homes, which is a potential water quality hazard
- 116-year-old sewer main
- Its been at least 13 years since the street was resurfaced
- Water flow to fire hydrants is too low, which creates a potential safety hazard
In comparison, new sewers and watermains last 50 years and newly resurfaced streets last 9 to 12 years.
-
What infrastructure improvements are we making?+-
Project work will include
- Replacing the watermain on both Andrews and Gladys
- Separating the sanitary and storm sewers on Andrews Avenue
- Recoating the storm and sanitary mains in the street and sanitary sewer laterals going from right-of-way to the mains to prevent leaks
- Installing new storm and sanitary cleanouts on each property
- Replacing lead water service lines with copper water service lines
- Installing new curbs
- Installing new driveway aprons
- Resurfacing the street and restore the site with street trees and landscaping
