Beck Center for the Arts Named Grand Marshals of the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade

June 26, 2023

Lakewood Mayor Meghan F. George today announced that the Beck Center for the Arts will serve as the grand marshals for the city’s annual Fourth of July parade.

The parade is scheduled to step off on Lake Avenue at Kenneth Drive at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, and conclude at Lakewood Park.

The Beck Center for the Arts is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. It started as Lakewood Little Theater (LLT) in May of 1933 under the leadership of Richard Kay. LLT performed in schools and other Lakewood locations until finding a home in 1938 at the Lucier Movie Theater, 17823 Detroit Ave. Today, the Beck Center for the Arts offers professional theater productions on two stages, arts education programming in dance, music, theater, visual arts, early childhood, and creative arts therapies for individuals with disabilities, outreach education programming, and gallery exhibitions featuring local, regional, and international artists.

“The Beck Center for the Arts has been creating art experiences for the residents of Lakewood for 90 years,” said Mayor Meghan F. George. “We are proud to have them serve as the grand marshals of the parade as we celebrate their 90th anniversary. We are so fortunate to have Beck Center for the Arts in our community and I look forward to many, many more years of this institution bringing art to Lakewood.”

Joining in the parade will be musical favorites, the Lakewood High School Ranger Marching Band, St. Edward High School Marching Band, the Lochaber Pipe Band and Red Hackle Pipe Band.

At.7:00 p.m., the Lakewood Project, Lakewood High School’s Youth Rock Orchestra, will perform at the Bandstand at Lakewood Park.

The Fourth of July will conclude following Lakewood’s annual fireworks extravaganza, set to begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.
