Dominion Energy Ohio Investing $5.14 Million for Four Lakewood Pipeline Replacement Projects
May 21, 2018Dominion Energy Ohio is investing $5.14 million here to replace 31,564 feet of bare steel piping — some originally installed as early as 1908 — with corrosion-resistant plastic line, in four separate spring and summer projects.
These projects are part of Dominion Energy Ohio’s overall Pipeline Infrastructure Replacement (PIR) program, launched in mid-2008. The $4 billion, 25-year PIR process will involve the eventual replacement of more than 5,500 miles of the company’s 22,000-mile pipeline system.
Construction on the first project is scheduled to begin May 14. The $260,000 project will replace 2,074 feet of bare steel piping, originally installed in 1951. This project will affect Archdale Avenue, West Clifton Blvd, and Riverside Drive. Completion is scheduled for June 15, weather permitting.
Construction on the second project is scheduled to begin May 21, replacing 13,620 feet of bare steel line, originally installed in 1922. The project area will include Lakewood Heights Boulevard, Wascana and Wyandotte avenues and Lewis Drive. Work on the $2.19 million project is scheduled to conclude about August 21, weather permitting. Project work also includes replacing 300 service lines, which connect Dominion Energy Ohio’s mainlines to the customer premises. As part of PIR, the company assumes responsibility for the replaced service lines.
Third project construction is scheduled to begin June 4, to replace 10,335 feet of bare steel pipe, originally installed in 1917. Construction will affect portions of Carabel, Lakeland, Madison and Morrison avenues. Work on the $1.88 million project is scheduled to conclude September 7, weather permitting. Project work also includes replacing 209 service lines
Fourth project construction, scheduled to begin August 6, will replace 5,535 feet of bare steel pipe, originally installed in 1908. Work on the $801,650 project will affect portions of Madison and Detroit avenues and Orchard Grove. Construction is scheduled to be completed September 21, weather permitting. Project work also includes 112 service line replacements.
Once project work is complete, restoration would begin as soon as weather permits, including sidewalks, driveways and approaches. Typical yard restoration is limited to grading and seeding.
