On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, Lakewood’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) will hold the first of (2) Public Hearings prior to submission of the city’s Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) One-Year Action Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CAC reviews requests for federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) funding submitted by city departments and not-for-profit organizations then makes recommendations to City Council regarding the allocation of these funds.
The following topics will be covered: descriptions of the CDBG, ESG, and HOME programs; preliminary estimates of FY18 funding from each source (CDBG $1,600,000, ESG $150,000, HOME $150,000); the citizen participation process integral to the allocation of federal funds; Lakewood’s community and economic development needs, goals and objectives including affirmatively furthering fair housing choice; and continuation of the city’s FY16-FY18 Certification Period during which at least 70% of CDBG expenditures must directly benefit low-moderate income households.
The Committee will hear applicant presentations on October 11th, 18th & 25th 2017 and conduct its 2nd FY18 Public Hearing on November 1, 2017. All sessions are held in the City Council Conference Room on the 2nd floor of Lakewood City Hall, 12650 Detroit Avenue. Citizen attendance is strongly encouraged and feedback is solicited during a Public Comment Period at the conclusion of each public hearing.
