Funeral Procession for Fallen Cleveland Police Officer to Close Several Lakewood Streets on Saturday
January 27, 2017A funeral procession for fallen Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey, slated to pass through Lakewood on Saturday morning, will close several streets for a brief period of time.
Lakewood residents are encouraged to show their support and pay respects by standing on sidewalks along the procession at around 9 a.m. Saturday.
Traffic on Hilliard westbound and Riverside Drive southbound will be closed to vehicle traffic for the procession. However, additional streets — including small portions of McKinley, Hogs Back Lane, Lakewood Heights Boulevard, Narragansett, Niagara, and Ogontz — will also be closed for a short period of time as the procession passes through Lakewood.
Local safety services will be on hand to, not only close and direct traffic, but to also pay their respects.
Officer David Fahey was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-skip crash during the Thursday morning rush hour as he was setting road flares to divert traffic around a fatal crash.
The procession — expected to last for about 30 minutes — is scheduled to leave the funeral home at Lorain & Stearns at 9:15am. They will go northbound to Crocker, eastbound on Hilliard to Riverside (soundbound) to Our Lady of Angels Church on Rocky River Drive for the 10 a.m. mass.
Once the procession passes through en route to the church, the roads in Lakewood will be opened. The procession will continue southbound on Rocky River to Lorain eastbound after the mass. Rocky River Drive is scheduled to be closed by CPD at 7:30 a.m. between Munn and Lorain until the after mass procession leaves the area.
“Though we encourage citizens to come and pay their respects, parking is limited in this area,” said Police Capt. Ed Hassing.
