Lakewood City Council Calls Special Meeting Feb. 11 to Review Petitions
February 08, 2016Lakewood City Council has scheduled a special public meeting to create a formal opportunity for the community to be heard on issues involving healthcare delivery in the city.
Following the Dec. 21 approval of a master agreement — between the city of Lakewood, Lakewood Hospital Association, and the Cleveland Clinic — a citizens group circulated a petition asking to overturn the legislation allowing the agreement to move forward.
Council will hear arguments on both sides of this issue during its special meeting, slated to take place at Lakewood City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.
“Just as Lakewood City Council last year provided ample opportunity for public input on health care delivery in the city, we also support the public’s continuing right to be heard,” said Lakewood City Council President Sam O’Leary. “Though only the Board of Elections can determine whether the March ballot will accommodate the issue, it is Council’s obligation to uphold a fair, open and deliberate process of evaluating the issue. I am confident that the result of that process will continue to make Lakewood residents proud and serve them well.”
