Refuse and Recycling Division Launches Lithium Battery Recycling Program
April 28, 2025On Monday, April 28, the Division of Refuse and Recycling launched a lithium battery collection program in collaboration with the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Residents of Lakewood can now bring household lithium batteries (sizes AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, and watch-sized batteries) to the Refuse and Recycling Center to be recycled.
Large rechargable lithium batteries like those found in power tools, electronic devices, laptops, and power banks are not accepted as a part of the program. These items can be dropped off at several big box home goods and office supplies stores for recycling.
Before dropping batteries off, residents must tape over the battery terminals. This action prevents fires from starting and causing hazards to workers and facilities.
