Statement from Mayor George Regarding Potential Protests in Lakewood
June 02, 2020The City of Lakewood was made aware of a peaceful protest planned for today, starting at the City of Cleveland First Police District and ending at Lakewood Police Department. The protest in Lakewood has since been called off by the organizer. I have consulted with Police Chief Malley and confirmed that the City of Lakewood is prepared for anyone peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights. We are also prepared to handle any unlawful disturbances, should they arise. I remain at the Lakewood Police Department to monitor the situation. National Guard vehicles reportedly stopped at a gas station in Lakewood and have since moved on, but were not dispatched to Lakewood. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves, however, there are no confirmed planned protests in the City of Lakewood at this time.
