This week is Ohio’s Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week

This week (March 17-23), is designated as Ohio’s Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week. During this week, public safety agencies, cities, schools, and community organizations join together to spread awareness that spring brings the increased possibility of flooding, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and associated hazards such as hail, high winds, and lightning strikes.

Also, please be especially aware that while tornadoes can occur at any time, late spring and summer are the prime season for tornado activity within the State of Ohio.

To prepare residents for the danger of tornadoes, the Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management is encouraging all communities to participate in the Statewide Tornado Drill scheduled for this Wednesday, March 20, 2018 at 9:50 am.

During the Tornado Drill, communities across the state of Ohio will test their tornado sirens or other weather warning systems.  In addition, an Emergency Alert System (EAS) warning message will be broadcast.

Cuyahoga County will send a test message through the ReadyNotify System and we encourage all communities with sirens or weather warning systems to participate by conducting their own tornado drills and reviewing their emergency plans.
