The City of Lakewood has added new signage to its parks to inform the public of rules regarding electric bikes, electric scooters, and other similar devices in all Lakewood City Parks. The posted rules inform parkgoers of the following information:
- Electric Bikes and Electric Scooters are not permitted to ride with the motor engaged anywhere within parks in the City of Lakewood.
- Electric Dirt Bikes/E-Motos are not permitted within parks in the City of Lakewood. These vehicles must be parked in a designated parking area.
- Reckless operation of any kind is prohibited. All riders of bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, e-scooters, skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates, and other similar devices must follow the rules outlined in LCO §373.08.
The City of Lakewood has received numerous complaints from residents and park visitors regarding unsafe and disruptive e-bike and e-scooter use in parks. The new signage is intended to help address the issue by alerting and reminding park users about requirements for safe and respectful use of vehicles to ensure an enjoyable experience for all parkgoers.
