The City of Lakewood seeks to partner with residential property owners in growing our shared tree canopy coverage from the current state of 23% to a sustainable 33%.
Lakewood residents are eligible to receive a native tree for planting at home, free of charge. The trees are container-grown in 3-gallon pots, and are 2 to 6 ft in height. They are small enough to easily transport and plant, yet large enough to get a good start towards establishing the tree on your property.
The following species have been reserved with a high quality, native grower: Allegheny Serviceberry, American Witchhazel, Blackgum, Eastern Redbud, Hackberry, Ohio Buckeye, Red Osier Dogwood, Sassafras.
Reserve your tree in advance beginning 10 AM on Tuesday, September 15 at www.arborday.org/lakewoodoh, while inventory lasts. Learn more at https://lakewoodoh.gov/public-works/streets-and-forestry/tree-plantings/.
The event will include planting demonstrations. Whether you are an experienced tree planter or just getting started, take home a native tree for your yard.
