Northland-Norton Infrastructure Improvement

Overview

The Northland-Norton Project is a major infrastructure upgrade in Lakewood to modernize aging underground systems on Northland and Norton Avenues. The work is part of the City’s Clean Water Lakewood initiative to improve sewer, water, and street conditions and to comply with environmental regulations. Construction is expected to finish by July 2026.

Key Benefits for Residents

Once complete, the project will bring improvements including:

  • Cleaner, safer water flow
  • Better water pressure at fire hydrants
  • Improved stormwater drainage
  • Protection of the Rocky River and Lake Erie
  • New road paving
  • Concrete curbs and driveway aprons

Project Scope

Major infrastructure upgrades will include:

  • Replacing old water mains on Northland (north and south segments) and Norton
  • Separating storm and sanitary sewer lines (so rainwater and sewage are handled separately)
  • Replacing old lead water service lines with new copper lines
  • Installing new storm and sanitary connections for properties
  • Adding new curbs and driveway aprons
  • Resurfacing the streets and restoring landscaping with trees
